I was in a situation
But that shipped sailed
Pulled out of the harbor but before it caught trade winds
It’s course got derailed
Compass defunct
Dreams debunked
It was raining men hard as hail
Well that’s an assumption really
But I watched them snap numbers skyrocket like the banana man doing a tally
And there wasn’t a pic in my inbox those days
What was once clear skies full of sun rays
Was only an occasional break in the clouds
A heavenly spotlight just not focused on me but on the crowd
I keep trying to play it cool
For fear of upsetting your mood
Leaving me with nothing but anxious thoughts
And a whole bunch of what ifs and oughts
It’s a waiting game but we lost the die and so I can’t take my turn
At least I get something out of it, more poems to write and then watch as the pages burn
